Van Isle 360 International Yacht Race
This race runs every other year, which means the next one will be in 2011. Port Hardy was one of the overnight stops during the 2009 race. After a great day of racing the fun continues ashore where sailors can unwind and enjoy the friendly Canadian hospitality and character of each Host City. Great Duck Race
To help celebrate Canada Day Port Hardy citizens participate in the Great Duck Race. Anyone can purchase a rubber duck and at 11:00am all of the ducks are dropped from a bridge in town the first duck to cross the finish line wins. There are plenty of prizes to be won and lots of fun to be had at this family event. All proceeds go towards Port Hardy’s main event Filomi Days. Other activities include a parade, fireworks, entertainment and more.
Port Hardy celebrates its resources fishing, logging and mining. This three day event has activities such as a dance, parade, entertainment, beer gardens, fireworks and much more.
Mt. Waddington Fall Fair
This event rotates between Port Hardy, Port McNeill and Port Alice. The Fall Fair highlights the community’s local product such as fruit and vegetables, arts and crafts, entertainment and more. 2009 theme is “Friendship grows at the Fall Fair.”
These concerts run from October through April and are organized by the North Island Concert Society. Entertainment from all over Canada comes to participate in this fantastic event which is usually held on Saturday. From country to jazz to comedy there is something for everyone to enjoy. The final concert is always partnered with a catered dinner.
Great Pumpkin Patch Walk
Right after Halloween, everyone brings their jack-o-lanterns down to Carrot Park for a big celebration. At dark the pumpkins are all lit up, hot chocolate is abundant and the fireworks are magnificent.
The rotary auction takes place the first weekend in November at Thunderbird Mall. Items are donated from local businesses and all funds raised go towards bettering the community.
